Put your phone to good use

By Anis Nadhirah

Have you ever looked through your wallet and wondered, where exactly did I spend my money today? Or maybe you’re the old-fashioned type of person who keeps all their receipts as a method of expense tracking?

Where did my money go?

If you’re either one of those types, you should consider making use of your smartphone to better track your daily expenses. The magical world of the App store has numerous software for your convenience to track where all your money is going.

The App store world!

In my early school days, I would track where my RM3 daily allowance went by jotting it in a notebook. Then, when I entered my last years of high school I found the magic of Budget Tracking Apps.

Got lunch at the campus cafeteria? Log it in the app.

Bought clothes at H&M? Log it in the app.

Why were apps like that so important, you may ask? Well, other than putting your phone to even better use, it gives you a great awareness of how you spend on a daily basis. Whether it’s your lunch meals or your occasional treats, you can see the money decrease better AND you learn how to limit yourself.

By making it a habit to calculate your expenses at the end of the day, you also don’t have to collect so many receipts. Once it’s in the app, you’re good to toss the paper in the trash. Not to mention, the app helps when you’re calculating your budget at the end of the month.

Like with most apps, the choice and categories are yours to personalise. Whether you are an Apple user (Spendio) or an Android user (Expense IQ). Whether you want to keep things detailed and organised (Spendee) or cute enough to make you smile (Household Account Book). The choice of Budget Tracking App is at your disposal. Now you’ll finally remember how much you splurged on your last Daiso visit without digging past your McDonald’s receipts.

*Disclaimer: We are not promoting any App in particular, just the idea of keeping track of your expenses.

  1. Yes, I taught my kids to use the Expense Manager App where we can pre-set standard monthly expenses and to categorise them too. Extremely helpful in managing own expenses and align with budget
