If you’re an active user of social media, chances are that you’ve been bombarded with overwhelming news in this country as of late. While compassion fatigue is a horrible kind of burnout, it is important that we all stay in the know of current events, so as not to shy away from eventual progress of a situation as a collective. Here’s what you you need to know, in case you missed it:

#JusticeForGanapathy

On 18th April, A. Ganapathy, 40, was pronounced dead at Selayang Hospital, slightly over a month after he was hospitalised. The reason for Ganapathy’s hospitalisation and eventual death, according to lawyer K. Ganesh, is the fact that he suffered from injuries inflicted by the police who took him into custody.

The police had initially arrested Ganapathy on 24th February this year to assist them with an investigation involving one of his brothers. However, as the late Ganapathy’s mother, S. Thanaletchumy, 60, said in a devastating video about her son’s death that “It was just paperwork they said,” and proceeded to wish for no other mother to have to endure the pain of losing their son to police brutality.
