In line with the International Women’s Day (IWD) 2022 #breakthebias, Mass Communication Department of Faculty of Business and Communication from INTI International University organised the International Forum: Women in Media, in an attempt to create awareness around the situation that women, specifically, in media face in today’s world.

Presenters from academia and the industry made clear that, although the situation is improving, conditions for women in media are far from perfect. The forum covered four main issues related to women in the media:

  1. Glass Ceiling in the media.
  2. Leadership positions for Women in media.
  3. Representation of Women in the media.
  4. Moving forward: what is needed?

Presenters represented a wide range of media outlets in Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong, as well as academia: Assoc. Prof. Azman Azwan Azmawati, from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Penang, Malaysia; Faridah Hameed, speaker, coach and communications expert; Jervina Lao, former foreign correspondent for diverse news agencies; Melisa Melina Idris, Assistant Vice President ASTRO Awani, and Reta Lee, Editor-in-chief, Yahoo Life Southeast Asia and author of The Stories Women Journalists Tell.

In a 2 hour virtual event, speakers and participants not just from INTI Education Group but from other academic institutions, engaged in a dynamic conversation about the future of media and how diversity and women representation could be enhanced across the different platforms.
