From the 29th of March to 1st of April, students of INTI’s Bachelor in Business, specialising in Resort & Hotel Management (BBBM), Diploma in Culinary Arts (DCAN) as well as Hotel Management (DHMN) participated in one of the most coveted culinary competition in South East Asia: Culinaire Malaysia 2022 which took place at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).
The students definitely experienced the heights of excitement in being able to showcase their culinary arts and food & beverage service skills and compete with others not only coming from colleges but industry players as well.
Lee Chun Meng, BBBM student, managed to bag Silver in the Mixology Mocktail category. DCAN students Lim Yi Shen won Bronze while June Tan Hxiang Ni got Diploma in the category for Poultry Main course/Western cuisine.
Another student, Yap Bo Jiun also managed to get Diploma in the Seafood Main course/Western cuisine category. It was definitely a moment to remember for all students and their lecturer trainers!
Aside from the competition, the lecturers from the Hospitality school attended a Coffee Roasting Workshop with Barista guild Asia on the 27th of March. Leading the training was Daniel Liew one of the globally certified Authorised Specialty Coffee Association Trainer (AST) and Certifier alongside with David Leong who is also an Authorised SCA Trainer (AST).
Needless to say, the lecturers were definitely learning from the best of the best in the field. Going back to basics, all the different variables were discussed about the transformation the coffee beans that we know and love go through when in the process of roasting. There was even a hands-on opportunity where the participants got to roast their own green beans. Suffice to say, they will never take coffee bean roasters for granted knowing what a complicated process coffee roasting is! By the end of the session, everyone was high on happy and not forgetting, coffee!
