On 29 June, 24 Foundation in Science (CFSI) students attended a soap making workshop in Georgetown, Penang. They were accompanied by lecturers, Ms. Ooi SH and Ms. Lim ST.

Their arrival was warmly welcomed by Ms. Julia, the instructor, who then guided the students through to the actual practical cold soap making process with a brief and theoretical explanation of lye and safety and soap making precautions.

She explained the ingredients selection so students can formulate and create their own recipe! Additionally, an introduction to soap cutting tools, unmoulding, and soap cutting process was also given throughout the class.

With this experience, the students gained knowledge and exposure into the production of handmade soaps, which is made with natural ingredients and carefully formulated by the instructor. The natural ingredients used are such as vegetable oils and pure essential oils as well as using plant-based dyes. Students also had the opportunity to make handmade soaps from scratch.

The students really enjoy being able to participate in this session where they spent quality time and bonding together in a fun traditional soap making class. At the end of the workshop, they took home 0.3kg of luxury soap they had created and made themselves at the end of the day
