Ask anyone, and they will agree that Malaysians are one of the most warm, hospitable people.  At INTI International College Subang (IICS), we, students and staff, take this seriously and we welcome everybody (local and International) to our vibrant campus where student experience is our utmost priority.

In our efforts in welcoming our local and international students back to campus physically, Student Services Department planned out some initiatives to bring the college life back and to “break the ice” among international students, as for many it is their first time in Malaysia, and to some, first time in a foreign land.

We kick-started the first initiative which was ‘Country Representatives’ where we gathered International Students according to their country/region, and the senior students take care of them and mentor them.  As of now, we have Country Representatives from Japan, Korea, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Southeast Asia, Middle East, China, India and Pakistan.

This initiative helped the new international students feel “warmer” and more welcomed and helped them to adjust and adapt to the culture and reduce their “home-sick” feelings. Many trips and activities have been conducted for their own students since the launch of this initiative.

Counselling and Development Unit also started a ‘Bonfire’ session for international students every fortnight to ‘chat’ with international students and counselors to get to know them better and provide a safe space for them communicate and share their thoughts.   It is also a platform for them to meet other students and share common struggles as an international student.  ‘Bonfire’ takes place every alternate Thursdays, from 6.00pm-7.00pm.

Other initiatives conducted by Student Services Department was a day trip to Malacca, wrapping of ‘Zhong Zi’ aka Chinese rice dumplings and day trip to Kuala Lumpur City Center. The aim is to break the ice among local and international students, and, ultimately, share with them what Malaysia has, in a fun and interactive way.

As we continue to enhance all students’ experience during their college life, we hope the students will join and participate in the events curated for them.
