Satu Malaysia! Truly an iconic line that every Malaysian knows and takes pride in. After gaining 65 years of independence from the hands of the British, we have come a long way. Despite the many challenges that we have faced in the past 65 years, there are also many events that portray unity among fellow Malaysians.

First and foremost, one better way to begin this article is by highlighting our scrumptious yet affordable food available in every nook and corner in Malaysia. Being a food haven, we are truly blessed to have a variety of food from different cultures. Some iconic foods that are commonly available in our food paradise are Nasi Lemak, Char Kuey Teow, Nasi Kandar and Roti Canai. Not to mention, our beloved mamak shops, most of which are open 24/7 to satisfy our midnight cravings. To add on, we have the iconic Ramly Burger and juicy feisty Satay which just tastes so delicious at affordable prices. Malaysian Food truly unites us.

In addition to that, festivities galore! Despite our different backgrounds, nothing beats a warm and welcoming open house where Malaysians regardless of race is invited. Aside from the food, almost everyone will let their hair down and be happy rubbing shoulders with each other. The tossing of Yee Sang is an iconic example, as people regardless of their race and background can toss it together and say sweeten honeyed words to each other which symbolize prosperity. Furthermore, we also practice cultural appreciation to understand and further appreciate each other’s culture. Despite the Baju Kurung and Batik being a Malay traditional attire, many non-Malays also use this classic yet elegant attire.

Last but not least, during the floods as well as the #whiteflagmovement in December 2021 and June 2021 respectively, many Malaysians went all out to lend a helping hand as well as provide financial and basic needs to the victims. Despite the different backgrounds of various people, this moment truly made the 1Malaysia principle prevail as we were helped each other while flaming the Muhibah spirit. In a nutshell, these are just some of the many events that unite us as Malaysians. Not to mention National Day is approaching, an event that almost every Malaysian looks forward to. We feel a sense of pride when the Jalur Gemilang is seen anywhere.
