This year’s Chinese New Year celebration at Inti International College Penang (IICP) was flashy and ‘loud’ indeed!
IICP Chief Executive Hemalatha Murugiah set off firecrackers to start the celebration, followed by an energetic lion dance performance. The atmosphere was ‘magical’ as the lion dance troupe pranced around Campus showcasing nimble moves and emanating good vibes throughout the building.
One of the highlights of the Chinese New Year celebration was the re-opening of the rooftop to accommodate the festival coordinated by 18th INTIMA. There were numerous enjoyable and engaging cultural activities coordinated for fellow INTIans, who had great fun partaking in the various ‘tasks’ and ‘missions’ assigned at the respective booths. Amongst the cultural activities organized were calligraphy writing, chopstick challenge, lantern making, and ‘pao gan’ – a matchmaking tradition via orange throwing to find love.
Fellow INTIans made a beeline towards the rooftop, pursuing the lion dance troupe for an opportunity of a close up shot with the cheeky ‘lions’. Right after a group picture, INTIans took their time to go from booth to booth and partake in the games. The ‘pao gan’ corner was a hit as guys and girls tried their luck in meeting their match with each orange ‘deposited’ in the makeshift pool. INTIans had a great time and were equally entertained with the chopstick challenge and calligraphy writing which was aimed at highlighting the Chinese culture.
The IICP Dance Club also performed several Chinese New Year-themed routines that added to the festive atmosphere.
Ultimately, it was an enjoyable and pleasant celebration which made the whole Campus come alive again! This has certainly set the bar high for a more happening celebration in the upcoming year.
