On 25 February, 300 staff and students from three IICS faculties namely the Center for American Education (CAE), the Centre for University of Hertfordshire Programmes (CUHP), and the Centre for Australian Degree Programs (CADP) joined forces to clean up the commercial area in SS15 in a gotong-royong where food packaging, plastic bags, boxes, and other waste scattered on the streets were collected, sorted, and sent for recycling.

The gotong-royong, which is part of the “Subang Jaya, Kita Punya” campaign, was an opportunity for the staff and students to develop a sense of ownership and to foster stewardship of the local community. This activity provided a hands-on experience to increase students’ awareness of waste management and cultivate better habits for a more hygienic and sustainable lifestyle.

Dr. Jane Lim, IICS Chief Executive, said “Subang Jaya has been home to our campus since 1991, so it is our duty to come together to give back to the local community by helping to improve the public spaces”. She added that this not only builds a bond among the INTI community, but it will also make a positive impact on environmental health and the wellbeing of local ecosystems.

Staff and students were divided into 12 groups covering different zones assigned within the SS15 Subang Jaya vicinity. Each group was equipped with tools such as wheelbarrows, brooms, shovels, and ditch scoopers. Participants collectively cleared the litter along the roads, back lanes, and five-foot ways, while some took the extra step by unclogging drains filled with rubbish and debris.
