Teachers’ Day fell on 16 May this year. This marked another year of hard work and dedication rendered by the staff at INTI College Sabah as a higher learning education institution. The student council, the 28th INTIMA, had decided to celebrate this special day by allowing their fellow students to purchase gifts such as cookies and bear-shaped towels to express their appreciation to the lecturers and staff of INTI College Sabah. The 28th INTIMA visited each of the lecturers and staff to present these memorable gifts in person.

During this special occasion, INTI College Sabah gave two awards: the INTI Teaching Excellent Award, and Academic Staff Recognition. The Teachers’ Day Award Ceremony was held on 20 May 2023 in the presence of the Board of Governors and INTI Management. To qualify for the awards, there are strict criteria that the deserving recipient had to fulfil.

The recipient for both the awards is Mr. Billy Siew, a Senior Lecturer. Mr. Billy is a Mathematics lecturer. He has been teaching at INTI for 25 years. As an educator, he believes that all students are unique and have something special that they can bring to their own learning processes. He lets his students express and accept themselves for who they are, as well as embrace the differences in others.

He incorporates hands-on learning, cooperative learning and individual work that engage and activate students learning. According to him, the use of technology like iPad Doceri app to illustrate workings in class while moving around to check on students had helped him in teaching his class. He also encourages his students to participate by writing their answers through iPad so that others can see their answers which are projected on the screen. Through all the class activities that he has done, the students are able to achieve the learning outcomes.

The College would like to express their gratitude and heartiest congratulations to Mr. Billy Siew for his long years of hard work and dedication in the field of education. At INTI College Sabah, Teachers’ Day celebration signifies the unrelentless effort put in by all educators in building the future of today’s generation.
