Students from BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance 3+0 in collaboration with University of Hertfordshire, UK, from INTI College Sabah undertaking MPU3442 Community Service completed their project with a final presentation and the handing over of donation items to Youth PREP Centre on 6th July.
The students were able to raise RM1,480 that was used to buy noodles, rice, instant noodles, etc., for Youth PREP Centre. The Centre has a Food Bank and a bi-weekly feeding programme to help rural youths who are struggling with the excessive cost of city living in Kota Kinabalu. The Food Bank programme helps an average of 80 students (monthly) in the vicinity having either walked-in or received dry food provisions through food distribution.
The money donated were raised through two different activities. The first activity was Gerai Rahmah which was held in collaboration with the Luyang Community Centre where students sold food items sponsored at a much cheaper price than the market and collected RM1,000.
The second activity was Feed the Future which was done at INTI College Sabah, collecting RM480 through a donation drive and by selling cookies, pre-loved stuffed animals, and keychains. Through this project, students learnt how other students’ struggle for food and they worked hard to collect donation to help these students.
INTI College Sabah students had a brief meeting with four recipients of the Food Bank programme after making their last presentation. When presenting, one of the questions asked was if they were keen to continue doing volunteer works in the future and all students expressed their interest to continue doing volunteer works and involving themselves in community service.
